Review - Old Town Hostel Otter
After making our way down the busy streets (and discovering that we accidentally stumbled into their Carnival celebration) we found our hostel nestled into one of the several cobblestone, pedestrian streets lined with adorable cafes and hip shops. It was only about a 15 minute walk from the Central train station (even with us having no clue where we were going) which was perfect considering we were still getting used to walking around with our backpacks.
We had to wait a few hours for reception to open, but we had an abundance of cafes to sit in so we didn't mind at all. Once the office opened, we checked in quickly and began to settle in. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful despite the fact that the woman in front of us was yelling at them for a ridiculously long time. We stayed in a 4 person dorm and it was huge! The lockers were giant and the entire room was clean and comfortable.
The hostel had communal showers and bathrooms, but we had a sink and mirror in our room which was perfect. We had a corner room with lots of windows that looked out onto a very lively pedestrian street. The hostel also had a bar and restaurant, but we were so busy exploring the city we didn't have a chance to check it out (maybe next time!).
The wifi was super strong which was a welcomed change from the first few hostels we had stayed in. A simple breakfast of toast, coffee, and tea was included and you could upgrade to a full breakfast buffet for less than $10. The kitchen was small but we still managed to cook all of our meals and even met some great people in the common area! Overall, we loved this hostel for its great location in the center of Zurich, the comfortable spacious rooms, and the welcoming staff.
