Sailing Away to San Juan!
The winter blues have got me down lately, but it's okay because I'm off on a Caribbean cruise with the fam!
We left on Monday and the past three days at sea were nice, despite some rough waters. The Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas is a spectacular ship with more than enough fun things to do. This morning, I even got to go in a sky diving simulator.
Today is Day 4 of our family vacay and we're in the beautiful port of San Juan, Puerto Rico! We spent the afternoon walking through a little market and eating street food. We got chicken on a stick and grilled corn on the cob from a wonderful street vendor and it was some of the best street food I've ever had. The corn was topped with two kinds of cheese, mayo, and crispy bacon. The bacon added enough salt and crunch to counteract the creamy mayonnaise and made for the perfect snack.
At the street cart, we met a local woman who told us that to find the best Mofungo (a traditional dish with mashed plantain) on the island, we had to go to Vaca Brava. We trekked there and it was well worth the walk. The mofungo was served with crispy pork in a traditional wooden pestle. It was perfectly seasoned and the crispy meat complimented the mashed plantains perfectly. We paired that with Puerto Rican rice, tostones, and glazed chorizo.
The rest of our day will be spent traveling the streets, shopping, and maybe drinking a little too much at Señor Frogs.
