Favorite Food Finds: Montclair State University
"My favorite meal of the day is brunch, so my favorite food find is the Disco Eggs from Toast Montclair. I can never decide if I want breakfast or lunch food and with this option, I don't have to choose! If you've never heard of the New Jersey classic Disco Fries, it is french fries topped with melted cheese and gravy- an adaptation of Montreal's Poutine (another favorite). Toast turns this into a brunch dish by using breakfast potatoes topped with eggs, cheese, and gravy. It's so delicious and worth the perpetual wait that Toast has. Matched with the friendly staff and cozy decor, it is the perfect brunch spot."

"The best meal I've had near Montclair State is the Churrasco Steak from Cuban Pete's. Cuban Pete's is by far one of the most popular places in north Jersey and rightfully so. EVery dish I've had there has been delicious and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing and no matter who I am with, I always enjoy myself!" The Churrasco Steak is a skirt steak marinated in guarapo and spicy chimichurri.

"It's a really hard choice, but I think my favorite food find would be the Instagram-wonderland that is Montclair Bread Co. They make the most delicious donuts and change up their menu all the time, so you can try a new one pretty much every time you go. Their iced coffee is served in cute branded mason jars and if you ask for flavoring, they do it will real ingredients (like Nutella), instead of with sugar packed squirts of coffee flavoring. My favorite donut is their classic Tres Leches. It's almost always on the menu and is super creamy. The cream isn't too sweet so it really balances out the sweet donut."

"After studying abroad in Florence, Italy my junior year of college, I probably had just as much prosciutto as blood running through my body. Anyone who is used to Tuscan prosciutto will be hard-pressed to find anything as great at a restaurant here without dropping major bucks. So, when I first had the prosciutto and burrata toast at The Corner in Montclair I was completely hooked. The Corner is your cliche picturesque urban eclectic cafe with awesome coffees, teas, freshly made juices, and delicious food. One of their defining elements is their 230 cookies - a batch of chocolate chip cookies made fresh everyday and served warm at 2:30 on the dot. However, the prosciutto and burrata toast is what sold me, complete with braised radicchio and grilled strawberries. It tastes like modern Florentine deliciousness right in the heart of Montclair."

"I discovered Tinga in my sophomore year at Montclair and after my first meal there, Chipotle was pretty much forgotten. Instead of the drive down Route 3 for fast food Mexican, the short drive or even walk into town is much more enjoyable. Tinga has some of my favorite Mexican food served up in a cute and colorful dining room in the heart of Montclair. As a vegetarian, their menu included way more than just one dish for me to choose from. There are burritos, quesadillas, and even tacos without any meat, but that doesn't mean they lose any of the delicious Mexican flavor. I always start with an order of the avocado fritas, ripe avocado breaded and deep fried with a perfectly spicy dipping sauce. It kind of cancels out the health benefits of the avocado but it's worth it. My go to entree is the California Burrito. It has the usual Spanish rice and cheese loaded with extra creamy black beans and lots of guacamole. It's filling and delicious with just the right amount of spice for me. And of course a twelve inch burrito meant I always had leftovers for later. And the best part? They do take out and delivery. Great food at a good price and super convenient for Montclair students. Couldn't ask for much more."
